”Zeus never asked me if this is what I wanted. Do you think you can just sit there with him, drink a Coke, and talk about your feelings? Ask him questions like that?“

At first glance, the Greek god Apollo embodies the image of perfect masculinity. Supernaturally beautiful, strong, and powerful, he embodies the image of the assertive, potent man as an infallible archer and guardian of the Oracle of Delphi. At the same time, his mythological biography tells of failure, betrayal, and deceit, revealing unexpected fissures. APOLLON – STOP TRYNA BE GOD explores masculinity as a cultural legacy that is passed down, reenacted, and reproduced. Together with musician and rapper Uğur Kepenek, aka Busy Beast, an ensemble of eleven young men aged 15 to 20, each with different cultural perspectives, develops a performance that bridges myth and the present. Today’s Apollos fall in love with Daphne all over again, settle the score with Zeus, defeat the Python, descend from Olympus, dismantle male role models, and reassemble them. Which narratives still hold weight today? Which ones are crumbling? Where are the sons of the future heading, and what questions accompany them?
